My new boyfriend brought me to Twin Peaks—basically Hooters—and it upset me. Now he’s mad at me. How do you feel about men who go to these “breastaurants”?
Let me start by saying that since you already know it upsets you, what I think or how I feel should be immaterial. It upsets you, and you are the one dating him.
Being internally validated means knowing that you do not need me or anyone else to cosign how you feel.
That being said, I will answer this question from the perspective of someone who is bothered by this kind of behavior, since you clearly stated that you are. If you and your man “check out girls together” and you label women who don’t as “insecure,” please sit this one out—I am not attacking or belittling you, I am simply not talking to you in this Substack.
I’ve touched on this theme several times on social media. In fact, I’ve spoken about it from so many different angles that it may have seemed like I was addressing unrelated scenarios…when really, I’ve always been pointing you back to one central issue:
Respect.
In today’s chronically online world, somehow, the collective decided that demanding respect is a sign of insecurity.
